We are up and running after a very long delay after being shut down by hackers. The hackers were getting in through an older version of Moveable Type and adding script languages to the pages on rivinus.com,rivinus-photography.com and golfeventphoto.com. I could not trace this back to a specific ID, so I just deleted rivinus.com and waited for enough time for them to get the hint that it was no longer available.
The new site is driven by Word Press. It was a free one-click install available through our web host. It’s a basic theme that came in the package. I coud spend time playing with it, but I just wanted something that was easy to post with and fairly clean. I was able to import all of the post text from MT, so the posts are there, but all of the images are gone. Sorry it seemed at least important that we try to save the 6 years of text. I wish I could have saved the images, but I am too busy to try to reconnect all of the hyperlinks.
We have a new photo album page today. Again it is simple. We had used Menalto’s Gallery for the other website. Gallery has more features, but that version is almost 6 years old with lots of security issues. Menalto has a new version called Gallery 2, but it takes forever for pages to load and just ugly in appearance. I suppose that could be changed, but again, I dont have time to play with it. So we have a simple album to post pictures

we (and by we I mean Sean, what do I know from these web thingies??!) are migrating our website to a new format and hope to have picture gallery up as well soon. more posts to follow – i hope.
Our website has been hacked for the third time. We are in process of rebuilding everything and hope to have a new site up by the end of the month. The Galleries are not working and your should not visit them right now.
We are putting in a garden around our new shed. While the rain has been decent this year in North Carolina, we are still in a moderate drought. We thought a rain barrel would be a good idea for watering the garden.
We found this one on ebay. It’s a 50 gallon food grade barrel that has been converted to a rain barrel. It has a spout for a house connection, an overflow spout when the barrel is full (This allows you to chain barrels together) and a screen on the top to keep out mosquitos.
We placed in on the back corner of the house about 25 feet from the shed. This spot has a high elevation from the garden area so we should be able to use gravity to provide pressure for the house. We built a sturdy stand to elevate the barrel even more.
You can see more pictures in the galleries.
We demolished our old storage shed in Feb and had a new one built and installed. We have been meaning to post pictures earlier, but our website had been hacked. We still working on those issues.
Picture of the shed can be seen in the galleries.
Our website turned 6 today. I have to admit that we do not post as much as we should, but it amazing the amount of data that we have collected over the years. We currently have a total of 285 posts and over 3800 images in our image galleries. Not bad a for a personal website.
For Christmas Sean bought me my own pocket-sized camera, I’ve been asking for one for ages.
Seems whenever I want to take a quick snap of something I can’t find a camera or a memory card or the battery or um somebody formats the card and they are poof – gone. Now I have one I can keep in my purse and he can’t have it. It’s a Canon Power Shot SD1100 IS in a pretty shade of blue.
The thing with digital pictures is you still have to do something with them. Used to just stack them up in shoe boxes intending to get them into photo albums…. now I download them and they sit waiting to be posted or printed or emailed or …
So although I have no good excuse, I’ve finally managed to get a whole bunch put up in the gallery taken in December. It was a lovely Christmas during which we were able to spend some time with Sean’s grandmother, parents and Aunt Di in Roanoke.
Grandma recently passed away, so we will treasure these memories of our last time together.
