Project 2: "Form that gives Substance"

The dependence of form depends on the way the light strikes an object, the transition from highlight to shadow that produces roundness and solidity

The form, or three-dimensionality of a subject is a function of shading, either of colour, or of tone.  An area of flat colour or tone has no impression of depth and must be graduated.

The book has four shots for this project. The first is a veined "Marrow Flower." I have no idea what a Marrow Flower is, so I used a red one I had given my wife that morning.  The second shot is a head portrait shot.  One side of the face is darker than the other.  This gives the form and texture of the picture. The third shot was a cup in a window sill.  The fourth shot was a nude of a woman's back. I .  Here is the picture pages in the book. Yes I know it's a lousy shot. I did not play with any of the lighting.

Here are my pictures for the project

ISO 100 1/13 F1.8 50MM The interesting thing about this picture is how I shot it. I taped the flower to a bottle to hold it into the picture. I then places the setup on a dining room chair with a solid maroon turtleneck on the back. I moved this into one of the darker hallways in my house.  The 1.8 aperture along with the 1/13 shutter on the Canon 50MM did a good job of rendering the dark black. ISO 100 1/500 F5.6 80MM in Macro mode. This was shot on the window sill above the kitchen sink. I had actually shot the one below, but decided the above looked more like the one in the book

ISO100 1/13 F1.8 50 MM.  Her back is turned slightly to the light to convey a greater sense of depth in the picture. I probably should have shot this with a wider angle lens, but I the model had just volunteered and I didn't want the moment to get away ISO 100 1/60 F1.8 50 MM.  I shot this in my office upstairs. The light was coming in through the window. I had Marlene stand against one of my blue walls for the backdrop. .
This was my first attempt at the cup. ISO 100 1/20 F32 at 64 MM on the 28-80 Sigma Macro zoom
