This page seems to come up a lot in the search engines. You can read more about this lens here

I just picked up a Sigma 28-80 F3.5-5.6 Aspherical Macro HF Mini Zoom for the Canon EOS 300D (Digital Rebel).  I bought this lens primarily because it had 1:2 macro functionality that I could increase to 1:1 with a diopter kit.  Oh, I got one of those as well. It is a Tiffen +1, +2, +4 kit. These are basically magnifying glasses so you can increase the size of the image.

Here is the first test picture with the new lens. This picture was taken without a diopter lens.  The first two are from our Christmas Tree.  The last is from a salad on the table.

I decided I would try a test of the diopter lenses and the depth of field on the new lens.  I had taken a few gag pictures and one of those was coffee.  It came out pretty neat so I thought I would use it as the test subject.

Here is a picture of the setup on my dining room table.  You can see the tripod and ramekin full of beans

Shot 1.  This was taken without any diopter correction. The shutter was on 15   seconds and the aperture was at F29. The larger aperture setting gives a good depth of field.  Meaning everything is in focus. Shot 2. This was taken with the +1 diopter ring. You can see how the beans appear a little larger and the image is cropped. This was shot with the same shutter and aperture settings.
Shot 3. This was shot with the +4 and +1 rings on the lens. Same shutter and aperture settings. There is a dramatic difference in how close you can get with the two rings together This is a cropped from the shot 4.  I wanted to demonstrate the detail the Eos 300D can provide.
Shot 4. This is the same as the above shot, but the shutter was set to 30 seconds. F29 is a VERY dark  aperture which allows a great depth of field. Depth of field is another way of saying focus planes.  The sides and center of the picture are very crisp and in focus.  However, this does not allow much light into the camera which is why it was shot with a 30 second exposure. Shot 5. This is at the same shot as shot 4. However, the shutter was set for 1 second and the aperture was "opened-up" to F5.6.  The reduces the depth of field to a very narrow focal plane.  You can see that the bean in the center is very crisp. The ones further out are slight out of focus.
